Numérik Solutions d'affaires: electrification for all purposes

Number of EVs: 4 lift trucks, 1 snowblower and 1 lawnmower

Number of charging stations: 3

Project history and implementation

At Sept-Îles-based Numérik Solutions d'affaires, the transition to electrically powered equipment began in 2010. The company did not want to deal with the safety, health and environmental issues associated with gasoline, diesel or propane-powered equipment. The first electric lift truck was thus purchased that year.

Nine years later, the company leased a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV), and charging stations were installed and made available to employees free of charge with the help of government subsidies. In 2023, the PHEV was purchased as it meets the organization's needs.

Numérik.2

For Numérik, electrification is a long-term strategy. Going electric is part of an overall approach to developing eco-friendly practices (carbon footprint, more energy-efficient buildings, etc.). In 2024, the organization intends to introduce incentives to encourage staff, many of whom are EV drivers, to carpool.

Tips for a successful electrification

  • Think long-term: integrate electrification into a broader approach to environmentally responsible practices. This process may appear costly and not profitable in the short term. The reasons and benefits of this approach must remain obvious to the organization (brand image, staff retention, etc.).
  • Know your needs: when purchasing equipment, take a step back and analyze what's on the market, then identify what meets your needs.
  • Lease before buying: leasing a vehicle allows you to test it in real-life conditions and ensure its suitability for your fleet.
